01 ⟡ WE'RE STARTING AGAIN
We missed having people to come back to.
We started ATARASHII on May 24, 2021, during the pandemic. A lot of us were missing those everyday conversations. The random chats, the people you got to know, the feeling of opening Discord and recognizing a few names.
For a while, we had something really good.
We met people we genuinely liked talking to. We shared anime opinions, joked around and spent time together.
Then we got older. Work got busy. Life happened, and slowly the server went quiet.
We missed it.
So we're rebuilding ATARASHII. Small and on purpose.
We're still figuring some things out, and we're fine with being open about that.

We wanted progression to have a visual identity that actually fits our server.

Atara is our slightly sarcastic, playful anime mascot. Mika is her ferret companion.
They're part of the visual identity we're building around ATARASHII.
03 ⟡ THE KIND OF COMMUNITY WE WANT
We know how awkward joining a new Discord can feel.
You enter a server, everyone already seems to know each other, and you have no idea where to start.
We want to make that easier.
Talk about the anime you just finished. Ask a random question. Share something interesting. Or just read along until you feel like joining in.
You don't have to be online every day.
We care about people treating each other with respect. Different opinions are fine. Racism and discrimination aren't.
Nobody should have to earn the right to be treated like everyone else.
04 ⟡ WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW
ATARASHII is still being rebuilt.
We have features in place, ideas we're working on and things that still need testing.
We aren't going to pretend the server is already packed with conversations or events.
We're starting small because we want to get the basics right.
That's the current state of things.

ATARASHII is 18+ only.
If you've ever missed an old Discord community or wished online conversations lasted longer than a social media post, you'll probably understand why we're doing this.
We don't know exactly what this next chapter will look like yet.
We'd like to find out with people who enjoy anime and want to get to know each other.
